One Millionth Ohio-Built Honda Civic Sold in Coral Springs, FloridaCORAL SPRINGS, Fla., Jan. 30 -- The sale of the one millionth Civic made in the United States at Honda of America Mfg.'s East Liberty Auto plant was commemorated today at Coral Springs Honda in Coral Springs, Florida. Tom Zimmerman, senior manager of the East Liberty Auto Plant, presented Jeff Anderson of Coral Springs with a plaque recognizing his purchase of the one millionth Honda Civic from the Ohio auto plant. "At Honda of America Mfg., we are proud to continue producing products of high quality and value. The sale of the one millionth Civic manufactured at the East Liberty Auto Plant is testament to our success and the customer support of our products," Zimmerman said. Anderson purchased the Flamenco Black Pearl '98 Civic EX Coupe for his daughter, Erica. When looking for a new car, quality and value were key factors, while style and sportiness interested his daughter, Anderson said. They both found everything they were looking for in the '98 Civic EX Coupe. "It's a pleasure for me to present this recognition for our one millionth Civic to the Anderson family," said Owen Miller, production associate at the East Liberty Auto Plant. "It's very satisfying to see the customer enjoying the cars we build." The Civic has been manufactured in the United States since 1986. The East Liberty Auto Plant produces both domestic and export models of the Civic Sedan and Coupe and Acura CL for more than 35 countries on the same production line. To meet increasing demand, the East Liberty Auto Plant is ramping up production from 220,000 cars a year to 240,000 cars a year. The Honda Civic was introduced in 1972. Its first overseas production site was in Indonesia in 1975. Today, the Civic is produced in 12 countries around the world, including Canada, Taiwan and Great Britain. It is Honda's most popular model worldwide. Honda has invested more than $4 billion in its sales, manufacturing and R&D operations in America. These operations now employ more than 15,000 associates. Honda purchases more than $5.3 billion from more than 400 original equipment domestic suppliers for production of automobiles, motorcycles, ATVs and engines in the United States.
