National-Standard Company Elects Ronald B. Kalich Director

    NILES, Mich., Jan. 28 -- National-Standard Company
today announced the election of Ronald B. Kalich to the Company's
Board of Directors.
    "We welcome Ron to our Board," said Mike Savitske, President and Chief
Executive Officer.  "Our Company will benefit from his manufacturing,
distribution and international marketing experience as we execute the
strategies for our various businesses."
    Kalich, age 50, is President of Getz Corporation, a subsidiary of the
Marmon Group, in San Francisco, California, a position he has held since 1993.
He is also Group President of the Marmon Group.  From 1990 to 1993, Kalich was
Group Executive, Environmental and Process Controls, of Danaher Corporation.
Prior to his employment at Danaher, he held executive positions with various
businesses at Forstmann Little & Company.
    Kalich holds an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh and a bachelor of
science degree in electrical engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University.
    Founded in 1907, National-Standard is a Niles, Michigan based firm with
annual sales of approximately $250 million.  In nine operating facilities
throughout the world, the Company manufactures and distributes a broad range
of wire and wire-related products, including tire bead wire and welding wire,
in addition to wire cloth and fabricated filters for the automotive air bag
industry.
