Peregrine Incorporated Develops On-Line Quality System For QS-9000 CertificationSOUTHFIELD, Mich., Jan. 26 -- Peregrine Incorporated has developed its own on-line Quality System that proved to be a major asset in rapidly achieving QS-9000 certification. "Our quest to become QS-9000 certified by the end of our first year in operation began in March 1997," said Todd Hughes, manager of Peregrine's QS- 9000 Quality System. "Given this goal, and the high level technical tools provided by executive management, it was imperative that we develop a system on our network to be accessible and user-friendly." Peregrine met its goal of achieving QS-9000 certification on Dec. 20, 1997. The certification process involved an extensive audit of the company's Quality System by ABS Quality Evaluations, a third party auditing firm. Benefits of Peregrine's on-line Quality System include 100 percent document control, ease of use for Peregrine employees and time and cost savings. "The development of our system, which was coordinated by MaryAnn Bruck our document control administrator, saved us well over $100,000 in setup and licensing costs," Hughes explained. "We also looked at a few 'canned' QS-9000 software packages that would have cost us additional time and money to tailor to Peregrine's needs," he added. Lane Hallenbeck, vice president of ABS Quality Evaluations, said he found Peregrine's Quality System to be "very comprehensive and innovative because of its graphical interface." "Peregrine's choice of color schemes, icons and report system names give the Quality System a flair that is interesting and fun to use," he said. Peregrine's Quality System was developed in-house using Peregrine's existing suite of software. The system is networked and accessible from every PC company-wide and will be used to maintain QS-9000 certification. Employees can access the most current QS-9000 information from their desktops, and new employees have immediate access to QS-9000 training information. Peregrine Incorporated supplies interior and exterior products to the automotive industry through manufacturing operations in Battle Creek, Flint, Jackson, Livonia, and Warren, Mich.; Oshawa and Windsor, Ontario; and Matamoros, Mexico. The company has annual sales of more than $1.1 billion and employs approximately 5,500 people. Peregrine Incorporated was formed by Joseph Littlejohn and Levy, a private investment partnership, on Dec. 31, 1996. Peregrine's Web site address is http://www.pgrine.com.
