Chrysler Financial Posts Record Earnings For 1997

    SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Jan. 23 -- Darrell L. Davis, Chairman of
Chrysler Financial Corporation (CFC), today announced the Company set all-time
records for pretax and net earnings in 1997.
    Pretax earnings for 1997 were $637 million compared to $586 million a year
ago, an increase of 9 percent.  Net earnings for 1997 were $419 million
compared to $376 million a year ago, an increase of 11 percent.
    Additionally, three of CFC's subsidiaries -- Chrysler Credit Canada Ltd.,
Chrysler Insurance, and Chrysler Realty also posted pretax and net earnings
records in 1997.
