Nissan Announces Revised Dealer Ownership Policy

CARSON, Calif., Jan. 16 -- Nissan Motor Corporation U.S.A.
today announced a new policy concerning ownership of Nissan and Infiniti
dealerships nationwide. The policy, which was developed and formalized over
the past year, reflects the dynamic nature of the current automotive retail
environment.
"The customer is driving many dramatic changes in the retail environment,
and many dealers across the country -- both individual owners and publicly
owned entities -- are rapidly evolving with the change," said Jim Yates,
Nissan's Director of Retail Business Development. "Our goal is to ensure an
efficient distribution system that continues to develop in the best interest
of our customers, dealers and Nissan," added Yates.
In providing incremental opportunity for dealers with proven sales
performance, Nissan's policy also establishes national, regional and specific
metropolitan market parameters for ownership of dealerships. Specifically,
the new guidelines limit any individual or entity from owning dealerships
comprising more than five percent of Nissan's total national competitive
segment registrations or 20 percent of total competitive segment registrations
within the company's existing regions. In addition, guidelines have been
established for top metropolitan markets.
This policy also allows existing, top performing dealers to expand their
presence within individual markets and to promote potential efficiencies.
Under the new policy, Nissan will now allow owners who agree to enhanced sales
and customer performance criteria to operate dealerships in adjoining primary
market areas.
"Our aim is to maximize the opportunity for our best performing retailers
to improve sales, customer handling and profitability and, at the same time,
to increase Nissan's and Infiniti's overall competitiveness and brand value,"
said Yates.
