Bodine Aluminum Announces Production Expansion

TROY, Mo., Jan. 16 -- Bodine Aluminum, Inc. announced today
that it is expanding production at its Troy facility. The expansion
represents an additional investment of $80 million and close to 100 new jobs.
Bodine, a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Manufacturing North America, is an
aluminum foundry with plants in Troy and St. Louis.
"We are very excited about Toyota's additional investment in Missouri,"
said Governor Mel Carnahan. "This is a true indication of Toyota's confidence
in our state and our workforce."
This announcement coincides with a V6 engine expansion at Toyota Motor
Manufacturing, West Virginia (TMMWV), Toyota's plant that is currently under
construction to build 4-cylinder engines. Bodine's expansion will produce
engine blocks and cylinder heads for V6 engines that will be made in TMMWV's
expanded facility.
With this expansion, Bodine's production will increase by 200,000 units
annually, double its current V6 production. These parts will be included in
engines for Camry-based vehicles, specifically Camry, Avalon, Sienna and
Solara, Toyota's new coupe that will be produced in Canada later this year.
The expansion also brings Bodine's total investment in Missouri to
$345 million.
"This expansion announcement is proof of Toyota's commitment to growth in
North America," said Robert Lloyd, President of Bodine. "We are thrilled
about the opportunity this presents for our facility and our team members."
The additional jobs will raise Bodine's total employment to approximately
900. Hiring for the new positions is expected to begin in the spring of 1999.
Bodine will use state agencies for applicant evaluation. Those who already
have active applications for the original plant will also be considered for
these jobs.
Bodine currently supplies 4-cylinder and V6 engine castings to Toyota
Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky in Georgetown. It will also supply 4-cylinder
engine parts for TMMWV.
