Detroit Regional Chamber Names Delphi Executive J.T. Battenberg World Trader of the YearDETROIT, Jan. 15 -- J.T. Battenberg, president, Delphi Automotive Systems, will be presented the World Trader of the Year Award at the Detroit Regional Chamber l998 International Consular Ball, Friday, March 20 at The Ritz-Carlton, Dearborn. Presented annually by the Chamber's International Business Council, the award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions in promoting international trade and positioning Regional Detroit in the global marketplace. Delphi is one of five automotive sectors of General Motors . Battenberg is an executive vice president of General Motors and a member of the GM President's Council, responsible for setting the corporation's overall strategic direction. Throughout his career, Battenberg has gained broad automotive experience across the globe, including extensive international experience in Belgium, Germany and the United Kingdom. "Mr. Battenberg's success in leading Delphi's expansion into international markets made him an excellent candidate for the World Trader of the Year Award. He has a global vision and extensive understanding of world markets," said IBC executive committee member Nicola Antakli (Intraco Corp.). Previous World Traders include Jacques Nassar, Ford Motor Co.; Timothy Leuliette, Detroit Diesel (formerly of ITT Automotive); Kenneth W. Way, Lear Corp.; Heinz Prechter, ASC International; Michael T. Monahan, Comerica Bank; Bronce Henderson, Detroit Center Tool; and John F. Smith, General Motors Corp. The Chamber's International Consular Ball also recognizes the Consular Corps of Regional Detroit, official representatives of foreign governments serving this area. The International Business Council is an advisory body for international programming and policy at the Detroit Regional Chamber, and carries out some of the goals of the Detroit Regional Economic Partnership, the economic development arm of the Chamber responsible for marketing the nine-county region to the world.
