Smallenberg Named President Of Canadian Autoparts Toyota, Inc. (CAPTIN)

    DELTA, British Columbia, Jan. 15 -- Gary A. Smallenberg was
named President of Canadian Autoparts Toyota, Inc. (CAPTIN) this month,
becoming the first non-Japanese president of a wholly owned Toyota Motor
Corporation subsidiary overseas.  Smallenberg also serves as Secretary of
CAPTIN and a member of the company's Board of Directors.
    CAPTIN, located in Delta, British Columbia, Canada, employs 185 people and
manufactures over 20 different designs of aluminum wheels for Toyota cars and
light trucks.  This year, CAPTIN will supply more than 900,000 wheels to
Toyota facilities in Canada, the United States and Japan.
    "This is a very important step in Toyota's on-going efforts to globalize
its management," said Mikio Kitano, President of Toyota Motor Manufacturing
North America.  "Obviously, we have great confidence in Mr. Smallenberg's
leadership ability, and we look forward to CAPTIN's continued success in the
years to come.  We are happy that a Canadian has assumed the top position of
this company."
    Smallenberg began his career with Toyota in 1991 as Vice President of
CAPTIN.  His main areas of responsibility included corporate planning, sales,
finance, new model introduction, legal affairs and general administration.
    Prior to joining CAPTIN, Smallenberg worked with a Vancouver-based
management consulting practice which specialized in government relations and
international business projects.  He also held a variety of positions with the
Government of British Columbia in the areas of economic development and
international trade.
    Born in Vancouver in 1947, Smallenberg earned his Bachelor of Commerce and
MBA degrees from the University of British Columbia.  He is a member of the
Canada-Japan Society and has been an active participant in several community
organizations including the Vancouver Symphony, Vancouver East Cultural
Centre, and Ballet B.C.  Smallenberg and his wife Sandra live in Vancouver,
where they were both born and raised.
