Yokohama Tire Corporation Rolls Out Oracle(R) Applications NationwideProject Expected to Halve Time From Order Entry to Product Delivery FULLERTON, Calif., Jan. 14 -- Oracle Corp. today announced that Yokohama Tire Corporation, a subsidiary of The Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd., is standardizing on Oracle(R) Applications throughout its U.S. operations as part of a major IT project to upgrade and standardize all hardware and software platforms. The Oracle implementation, including Oracle Financials(R), Oracle Manufacturing and Oracle Supply Chain Management application suites, is expected to greatly improve data access, integrity and analysis for better decision-making, and substantially streamline business processes. Yokohama expects the efficiencies introduced by the integrated Oracle system to help it meet its ultimate goal of reducing the turnaround from the moment an order is placed to the time the customer receives the products from several days to under 48 hours. The project, dubbed Yokohama Enterprise System or YES, will upgrade Yokohama's existing Oracle Financials implementation and replace its current Unidata applications for accounts receivable, order entry, finished goods inventory, warranty claims, shipping allocation of loading and pricing. Yokohama selected Oracle Applications on the basis of its Year 2000 compliance, scalability, level of integration and technological leadership. By unifying currently scattered data on the Oracle platform, Yokohama also expects to gain improved data integrity and boost the productivity of personnel. Improved Decision-Making Through Better Data, Analysis The Oracle system will provide Yokohama managers with faster access to more detailed data for better decision making, as well as powerful online analytical processing (OLAP) tools -- Oracle Discoverer(TM), Oracle Financial Analyzer and Oracle Sales Analyzer -- to better monitor and measure business performance. Rather than waiting days for MIS to create custom reports, users will be able to drill down into data, look at data in a variety of different ways, create their own reports, and post reports to an Intranet. Managers will have online access to a snapshot of business performance on a daily basis, including mini profit/loss statements to analyze the impact of proposed promotions and discounts, analyzed by SKU line or customer, and direct cost analyses to measure performance by SKU number, sales and discounts. In addition to financial analyses, the system is expected to provide direct benefits to factory and production management. Oracle Quality(TM) will help Yokohama warehouse statistical data from the factory floor and generate reports to analyze return rates, wear patterns and other results to determine the impact of specific manufacturing processes and materials. Yokohama will use Designer/2000(TM) to integrate existing plant systems with Oracle Bill of Materials and Oracle Cost Management to better manage raw materials inventory. The system will also help Yokohama better manage factory costs by more precisely determining the direct cost of a particular tire build. In the second phase of its project, Yokohama plans to improve responsiveness to customer needs by implementing Oracle Web Customers(TM) as the foundation of an Extranet that will allow customers to determine the status of shipments and inventory, place orders and transact general business utilizing Web technologies. Yokohama will also implement Oracle Web Employees(TM) to automate purchasing of office materials and other small-order items throughout the plant. "Our goal is to make sure we get the right information to the right person at the right time," said Michael Siersema, national MIS manager for Yokohama Tire Corporation. "Oracle Applications will help us improve our competitiveness through better decision-making, and improve our customer service by getting products to our customers more quickly by streamlining our business processes."
