Omnion Buys AC BatteryEAST TROY, Wis., Jan. 9 -- Omnion Power Engineering Corporation has purchased AC Battery Corporation, also of East Troy, from Delphi Energy & Engine Management Systems (Division of General Motors Corporation ). Delphi had operated AC Battery as a wholly owned subsidiary since October 1994. Terms of the sale, which was completed on December 23, 1997, were not disclosed. AC Battery's primary product, the PQ2000 Power Quality System, is designed to protect power sensitive industrial and commercial installations from impact of utility power voltage sags and short duration power outages. Several utility companies around the United States have tested and installed the PQ2000 and found it to be an effective solution for medium and large scale customers. According to Omnion's president, Hans Meyer, "We have worked closely with AC Battery over the last four years in the commercialization of the PQ2000 product and now, the consolidation of our two businesses will make the PQ2000 the most reliable and cost-effective solution available. Omnion will honor all customer commitments made by AC Battery." "We think the market for large scale power protection systems is growing rapidly, and we will accelerate our efforts to make the PQ2000 product line the leading solution in the United States and internationally," states Mr. Meyer. Omnion will continue to market the PQ2000 and related products through the existing sales channels and utility relationships established by AC Battery.
