Dodge Intrepid and Chrysler Concorde Are African Americans On Wheels' 'Urban Picks'DETROIT, Jan. 8 -- The editors of African Americans On Wheels magazine have chosen the Dodge Intrepid and Chrysler Concorde "for best urban characteristics" in the mid-size family sedans class. The "Urban Pick" winners will be featured in the magazine's Spring 1998 issue. The awards will be presented today by Randi Payton, publisher and editor-in-chief, at the magazine's Second Annual Golden Wheel Awards gala reception at the Museum of African American History. The selections were made by a panel of automotive journalists including Warren Brown, The Washington Post; Paul Eisenstein, The Detroit Bureau; Winfred Cross, Charlotte Post; Rosville Embry, Dallas-based auto writer; Blair Walker, formerly of USA TODAY; and Jacqueline Mitchell, AAOW executive editor and former Wall Street Journal reporter. "The new Chrysler mid-size sedans are visually stunning, well-appointed, roomy and they leave little to be desired, according to our Urban Picks editors," Payton said. "Once again, Chrysler has taken show car styling and put it on the street." African Americans On Wheels features an Urban Pick vehicle in each of its quarterly issues. The magazine is a 40-page supplement to 33 black newspapers and zoned editions of three daily publications: The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press and The Washington Post.
