Borg-Warner Automotive Manufacturers' Challenge Cup Presented to Ford at North American International Auto ShowDETROIT, Jan. 8 -- Borg-Warner Automotive, Inc. presented Ford Motor Company with the Borg-Warner Automotive Manufacturers' Challenge Cup on Wednesday at the North American International Auto Show here. The presentation was made to Bob Rewey, group vice president, marketing sales and service, Ford Motor Company, by Fred Kovalik, president and general manager, Borg-Warner Automotive Powertrain Systems. The Borg-Warner Automotive Manufacturers' Challenge Cup goes to the manufacturer of the winning truck in the World Championship Off-Road Races, held at the Crandon International Off-Road Raceway in Crandon, Wisconsin over Labor Day. The $120,000 hand-crafted cup stands 44 inches tall and is made of sterling silver and 18-karat gold. "In front of a record crowd at Crandon, Wisconsin last Labor Day weekend, Scott Douglas opened an insurmountable lead over a starting field of 20 in his black Walker DynoMax truck," said Kovalik. "He led all nine laps of the race and won the title of 'King of Off-Road Racing.' "I am proud to say that Scott's winning Ford truck was equipped with a Borg-Warner Automotive Torque-on-Demand 4 by 4 transfer case - the same one that is on one million Ford Explorers and Expeditions and Lincoln Navigators," Kovalik said. Borg-Warner Automotive presented the award for the first time in 1995. Previous award recipients are Chrysler Corporation and GM's Chevrolet Division. Borg-Warner Automotive's support of off-road racing has strong ties to its research and development efforts in advancing its product leadership position in the automotive industry. The strenuous conditions of off-road racing provide an excellent proving ground to test the performance and endurance of the company's four-wheel-drive systems. Borg-Warner Automotive is the leading independent supplier of four-wheel-drive transfer cases for light truck and sport utility vehicles, the fastest growing segment of the North American auto industry.
