Whitman Announced Richard G. Cline to become Chairman of the Board of Hussmann CorporationCHICAGO, Dec. 17 -- Whitman Corporation announced today that Richard G. Cline has accepted the position of Chairman of the Board of Hussmann Corporation, effective at the time of Hussmann's spin-off to Whitman shareholders. The spin-off is scheduled to be completed January 30, 1998. Larry Vowell will continue to serve as President and CEO of Hussmann. Bruce S. Chelberg, Chairman and CEO of Whitman Corporation, said, "For many years, Dick was a senior executive in the supermarket industry. He's been a Director of Whitman for 10 years and he has run public companies. Dick's knowledge and experience will be a valuable addition to Hussmann once it becomes an independent company." Most recently, Mr. Cline served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NICOR Inc. He retired from the company in 1995. Prior to joining NICOR, he spent 22 years with Jewel Companies, where he rose to become Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Currently, he is Chairman of Hawthorne Investors, Inc., a private management advisory and investment firm he founded in 1996. In addition to serving on Whitman's Board, Mr. Cline is a director of Kmart Corporation, Ryerson Tull, Inc., and Central DuPage Health System. He is a past Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and a director and past President of the University of Illinois Foundation. SOURCE Whitman Corporation
