Chrysler Statement in Response to Outcome of Global Climate Negotiations In Kyoto, JapanWASHINGTON, Dec. 11 -- The following statement was issued by Robert J. Eaton, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer, Chrysler Corporation , in response to the outcome of global climate negotiations in Kyoto, Japan: "Chrysler Corporation is disappointed with the outcome of the Kyoto meetings. For months we have urged the Administration not to bind this country to reductions of greenhouse gas emissions with arbitrary deadlines. Innovation and invention don't often come with dates certain. The Administration chose to do that anyway. We also emphasized the importance of making sure developing countries made meaningful contributions to a global reduction in greenhouse gas emissions -- this too is missing from the treaty. Without participation by all nations, little or no environmental benefit will be realized. "To the extent there is a problem it will evolve over the next century. In the near term, we should not take any action that could harm the U.S. economy or put at risk American jobs. Together, we must seek to advance new technologies in smart, cost-effective ways. "Chrysler Corporation is committed to the development of highly-efficient advanced technology vehicles that help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In fact, we have said all along that global partnerships and advanced research and development should be the cornerstones of any climate change effort. For the past few years, we have been working with the U.S. government on innovative automotive technologies and we'll continue to do so." SOURCE Chrysler Corporation
