Emil Hassan Named Senior Vice President At Nissan North America, Inc.TORRANCE, Calif., Dec. 8 -- Nissan North America, Inc., (NNA) announced today that effective January 1, 1998, Emil E. Hassan, 50, will be promoted to the new position of Senior Vice President, Projects and Logistics at NNA. Hassan currently is Senior Vice President, Operations at Nissan Motor Manufacturing Corporation U.S.A. (NMMC). He will maintain his office at NMMC in Smyrna, Tenn. and report directly to Minoru Nakamura, president, NNA, Torrance, Calif. In his new position, Hassan will have responsibility for three major areas of Nissan's North American activities: the next generation Sentra Project; North American environmental issues; and NNA Logistics. Specifically, Hassan will serve as Chairperson of the Administrative Office for the Sentra Project responsible for handling all administration activities of the project's Steering Committee, of which he is also a member. In his new role, he will also serve as Chairperson of the Administrative Office for the newly created North American Environmental Management Committee. Lastly, Hassan will oversee Nissan's total logistics operations for both vehicles and parts in the U.S. Hassan joined NMMC in 1981 as its Paint Plant manager. Previously, he spent 12 years with Ford Motor Company where he held increasingly responsible management positions. During his career with Nissan, Hassan has held several top level engineering and operations management positions. He has served as Senior Vice President, Operations for Nissan's U.S. manufacturing facility since 1993. Hassan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Wayne State University, Detroit, Mich., and is a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers. In Tennessee, he is active in both the Nashville Area and Rutherford County Chambers of Commerce and is the chairman of the Business/Education Partnership of Murfreesboro and Rutherford County.
