Delphi Energy & Engine Management Systems Receives QS-9000 CertificationFLINT, Mich., Dec. 5 -- Delphi Energy & Engine Management Systems received QS-9000 certification, the industry's highest quality recognition, today at its world headquarters. The certification recognizes that the division's 24 manufacturing sites, 10 engineering sites and world headquarters comply with QS-9000 standards. Of the division's nine joint ventures, two are QS-9000 certified and two are expected to be certified by first quarter 1998. At the division's day-long leadership conference, Ian Coyle, area manager from BSI, the division's third-party registrar, presented the certificate of compliance to Donald Runkle, vice president and general manager and David Krausch, divisional director of Quality. Approximately 600 of the division's employees attended the ceremony. "It is my pleasure to recognize the hard work and dedication that each Delphi-E employee demonstrated throughout this process," Runkle said. "Receiving QS-9000 certification reinforces the dedication and commitment that our employees demonstrate towards improving our quality systems. It's a bonus to be able to share this moment with our employees and leadership group today." QS-9000, a quality system that was established by the U.S. automotive industry, is based on global ISO concepts and incorporates GM's "Targets for Excellence," Ford's "Q-1 Quality System Standard," and Chrysler's "Supplier Quality Assurance," program, as well as elements from other vehicle manufacturers. "It was a demanding and rigorous process," Krausch said, "and our people met the challenge. We continually focus on reducing defects, eliminating waste, and improving our processes every day and this process helped keep our team focused."
