Mazda Personnel ChangeIRVINE, Calif., Dec. 4 -- Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) today announced that George McCabe, vice president sales and marketing, will leave the company Jan. 1, 1998 after 24 years of service. In a meeting with Mazda's National Dealer Council and the company's sales and marketing staff, McCabe said, "I feel very good about what's happening at Mazda under the leadership of Richard Beattie, MNAO's new president and CEO. The company has stabilized and is well on its way to reestablishing itself as a major competitor in the North American market. This presents a perfect opportunity for me to open a new chapter of my life and explore other business options and opportunities." Beattie said, "George McCabe has been one of the major driving forces behind Mazda's new direction and focus. He is one of the best sales and marketing executives in the business today, and enjoys a tremendous amount of respect from our dealers and our employees." McCabe, a 30-year auto industry veteran, began his career with Chrysler Corporation. He joined Mazda in 1974 as a district sales manager and served in a variety of increasingly responsible executive positions including senior vice president and general manager of Mazda Motor of America, Inc. He was named to his present position earlier this year, during the consolidation of the U.S. Mazda companies into MNAO. According to the company, no immediate successor has been named.
