United Recyclers Group Re-Opens MembershipFLORENCE, Ala., Dec. 3 -- United Recyclers Group, LLC (URG) recently re-opened its membership to automotive recyclers in the United States and Canada. URG closed its ranks to new members in February 1997, after experiencing 100% growth in February 1997. URG currently has approximately 290 members, and has re-opened membership as it deployed a new computerized recycler information management system (RIMS), to further its goal of building a premium trading group and redefining the automotive recycling industry in North America. URG was formed in January 1997, out of discontent with the RIMS offered to the industry by its primary provider ADP. URG is member-owned and its members have been paying monthly, to fund URG's development of the RIMS and other products and services benefiting its members. URG, with its new partner, Actual Systems of America, Denver, Colorado, deployed a new RIMS in September 1997, the Pinnacle Auto Recycling Trading System(TM) (PARTS), utilizing a modern operating system with features including digital imaging, wireless bar code applications and Internet access. Linda Linn, Linn's Truck Salvage, Conway, Arkansas, says, "If you had told me six months ago that automotive salvage yards would be utilizing bar codes, the Internet and digital imaging in the near future, I would have said it was not possible." URG is currently negotiating with other industry participants and believes more members in the United States and Canada will further its goal of building a premium trading group with full North America coverage. Other industry participants have indicated that more members providing complete coverage will allow increased alliances, as URG can then deliver and purchase products and services from coast to coast, North to South, including the United States and Canada. URG member benefits, in addition to the RIMS, include training, a member buying co-operative, co-operative advertising and communication synergies. URG has also retained specialized assistance in researching and utilizing export and import opportunities and salvage acquisition for group members. Bill Mitchell, URG's business manager states, "URG members have been overwhelmed by the benefits their synergy has created in less than one year and the best is yet to come." URG's goal of redefining the automotive recycling industry should increase its members' sales and profits, while lowering prices to the automotive aftermarket and consumers. URG believes there are at least 200 more progressive recyclers that are interested in receiving the benefits of URG membership. Members currently pay $500 monthly to participate in the venture. There are over 10,000 recyclers in North America, the majority of which are smaller family-owned operations. URG's current members represent over $500 million in sales.
