Detroit Diesel Corporation Announces New Director to BoardDETROIT, Nov. 25 -- Charles G. (Chip) McClure has been elected to the Board of Directors of Detroit Diesel Corporation . The appointment was unanimously approved at a meeting of the company's Board of Directors held on November 21, 1997, in Detroit and became effective immediately. His appointment increases the DDC Board membership to 11. Chip McClure, President of Detroit Diesel Corporation and a member of the Executive Committee, joined DDC in August, 1997. "We are fortunate to be welcoming Chip McClure with the depth of experience he brings to the Board," said Roger S. Penske, Chairman of Detroit Diesel. "His broad and diverse background will add to our business and help in our efforts to strengthen Detroit Diesel's competitiveness in both new and existing markets." Prior to joining DDC, McClure was employed for 14 years at Johnson Controls, Inc. During that time, he was president, and previously vice president and general manager of the Americas, a $4 billion group of businesses with 50 plants and 20,000 employees. Prior to June 1995, he was vice president and managing director for the Automotive Systems Group's European Operations. While vice president and managing director, McClure opened 22 plants in 36 months and grew the business from a $300 million operation to a $1.5 billion operation, moving Johnson Controls Inc. from number four in the marketplace to number one. McClure held management positions in operations, sales and marketing during his first ten years at Johnson Controls, Inc. Prior to his employment at Johnson Controls, McClure was employed at Ford Motor Company; sales engineer and Engineering. McClure holds a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University and an MBA from the University of Michigan.
