Meritor WABCO is the New Name of North America's ABS Leader For Commercial Vehicles

TROY, Mich., Nov. 21 -- Following a natural progression in a
major name change, Rockwell WABCO Vehicle Control Systems has officially
changed its name to Meritor WABCO Vehicle Control Systems. On September 30,
1997, Rockwell Automotive became Meritor Automotive, Inc. , an
independent, stand-alone company that supplies components and systems to the
automotive and trucking industries.
Meritor WABCO is the leading North American supplier of anti-lock braking
systems (ABS) for heavy-duty trucks, tractors, trailers and buses. The
company provides anti-lock braking systems and other vehicle control systems
and components to commercial original equipment manufacturers in the U.S.,
Canada and Mexico, and serves aftermarket customers through Meritor's
Aftermarket Parts and Services business.
In addition to ABS, Meritor WABCO supplies a comprehensive line of vehicle
control system products including air compressors, air dryers, control valves,
suspension and cab leveling valves, and electronic braking systems.
"Changing the name to Meritor WABCO was the right thing for us to do as a
company in order to support the launch of Meritor Automotive," said Leonard C.
Buckman, president and general manager of Meritor WABCO. "Even though our
name will be different, we will continue to serve the same markets with
products that incorporate the latest technology and are backed by the superior
customer service and support our customers have come to expect. In addition,
we will continue to introduce new advanced systems for the industry, including
pioneering the next generation of stopping systems - electronic braking
systems."
Meritor WABCO tractor ABS is currently standard equipment at Freightliner,
Kenworth, Mack, Peterbilt and Volvo. In addition, Meritor WABCO ABS is
available as optional equipment at all other major truck/tractor OEMs and at
most coach and specialty vehicle OEMs. In total, more then 3,500 large,
medium and small fleets have specified Meritor WABCO ABS.
Meritor WABCO is a joint venture of Meritor Automotive, Inc. and the WABCO
Automotive Products Group of American Standard Companies Inc.
