North American Car and Truck of the Year Jury Selected

DETROIT, Nov. 20 -- More than 45 of North America's toughest
automotive journalists have been chosen to serve as the 1998 North American
Car and Truck of the Year Awards jury. Members of the distinguished group
will determine winners of the car and truck competition to be announced on
Monday, January 5, 1998 at the North American International Auto Show in
Detroit.
The 48 jury members will review 33 cars and trucks by December 15, 1997,
assigning points to each vehicle. The points are based upon vehicle
characteristics such as styling, spaciousness, handling and engine
capabilities. The vehicles accumulating the most points will be named the
North American Car and Truck of the Year.
To be eligible for the 1998 awards, the cars and trucks must have been
introduced into the North American market between December 15, 1996 and
December 15, 1997. Cars must have anticipated sales of at least 5,000 units a
year; trucks require expected sales of 2,000 units annually. Vehicles must be
all new or have significant design, structural or mechanical changes from a
previous year in order to be eligible.
