IMPCO Elects Bensinger Chairman of The Board; Company Intensifies Global Gaseous Fuel Conversion EffortsCERRITOS, Calif., Nov. 17 -- IMPCO Technologies (Nasdaq: IMCO, IMCOW) announced at its recent annual meeting the election of Peter B. Bensinger to chairman of the company's board of directors. He succeeds Rawley F. Taplett, who will continue to serve as a director and also chair the board's executive committee. Bensinger, 61, is president of Chicago-based Bensinger, DuPont & Associates (BDA), a privately-owned professional services company that provides a wide range of consultation, training and Employee Assistance Program (EAP) services promoting employee health and safety. He has served on IMPCO's board of directors since 1995. "Peter brings a wealth of knowledge, diverse business experience and strong social responsibility to the post of chairman," said Robert M. Stemmler, president of IMPCO. "He also is committed to the alternative fuels industry and our goal of a cleaner, safer environment. His leadership and dedication will be a tremendous asset to us as our company continues to grow." Prior to founding BDA, Bensinger served as the Administrator of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). He was appointed to that position in January, 1976, by then President Gerald R. Ford and, following U.S. Senate confirmation, served a five-and-a-half-year term during the Ford, Carter and Reagan administrations. In addition to testifying before the Senate and U.S. House of Representatives on a variety of issues, Bensinger has lectured extensively throughout the United States and internationally on drug control, drugs in the workplace and the need for consistency in corporate and government drug policies. He also served for over 10 years in various executive positions with Brunswick Corporation, a recreational products manufacturer, handling overseas assignments in London and Frankfurt. A graduate of Yale University, Bensinger also holds honorary Doctor of Law degrees from San Marcos University in Lima, Peru, and Dankook University in Seoul, Korea, for outstanding leadership in international drug control. In addition to Bensinger's appointment, Stemmler announced at the annual meeting that IMPCO will be intensifying its alternative fuels research and development efforts worldwide. He added that the company plans to place increased emphasis on supplying gaseous fuel conversion systems for motor vehicles, forklifts and industrial engines in foreign markets such as China, Mexico, Latin America and France. "Air pollution is a global problem and must be approached as such," said Stemmler. "Clean air legislation worldwide has not only created an urgent need for alternative fuels such as natural gas and propane, but has also mandated their use in many foreign countries along with the United States. That creates numerous opportunities for IMPCO, and we have the technology, resources and experience to act on them swiftly." As an example of IMPCO's global focus, Stemmler noted that, as previously announced, IMPCO was recently selected by General Motors to work in tandem with the auto manufacturer in developing an unprecedented and potentially far- reaching natural gas vehicle conversion program in partnership with the Chinese government. He also mentioned that IMPCO has carried out conversion programs in Europe, Taiwan, Venezuela, India, Turkey and other foreign countries. Headquartered in Cerritos, CA, the company has additional facilities in Irvine, CA; Detroit, MI, Seattle, WA, Mt. Pleasant, IA, Australia, the Netherlands, France, Germany and the United Kingdom. IMPCO is a market leader in the Original Equipment Market (OEM) and aftermarket for gaseous fuel management systems and components that allow internal combustion engines to operate on clean gaseous fuels such as propane and natural gas. IMPCO provides conversion systems for motor vehicles, forklifts, other material handling equipment, and small portable to large stationary engines. SOURCE IMPCO Technologies
