The Timken Company Announces Tool Steel Distribution Facility in Greer, S.C.

CANTON, Ohio, Nov. 17 -- The Timken Company
announced that it will open a tool and alloy steel distribution facility in
Greer, S.C. The new operation will be part of OH&R Special Steels Company, a
unit of Latrobe Steel Company, a Timken Company subsidiary.
"This distribution center is part of the continuing expansion of our
distribution network to better serve our customers and bring more shareholder
value," said Hans J. Sack, president - Latrobe Steel Company. "The breadth of
the product line and value-added services offered at the new facility will
strengthen our leadership position in the tool and die steel industry."
The 40,000-square-foot building is being constructed as part of the
Gateway International Business Center in Greer. The operation, which is
scheduled to open in February 1998, will offer steel warehousing, cutting and
machining services to Latrobe's network of independent retail distributors, as
well as industrial customers in this fast-growing region.
"This distribution center brings us closer to our customers in the
Southeast," said Gregory R. Ball, plant manager. "The close proximity, in
addition to the machining operations, allows us to offer a higher level of
service to customers."
The Timken Company is a leading international manufacturer of highly
engineered bearings and alloy steels. The company employs some 19,000 people
worldwide and reported 1996 sales of about U.S. $2.4 billion.
