LucasVarity Doubles Aluminum Calipers Contract With VW/Audi

    DETROIT, Nov. 13 -- The Light Vehicle Braking Systems
Division of LucasVarity plc , the global automotive, diesel engine,
aftermarket and aerospace products and systems group, has been awarded a long-
term contact to provide aluminum rear brake calipers for a range of Volkswagen
and Audi passenger car models.
    Annual caliper volume is expected to increase in 1998 to five million
units, up by nearly 100 percent from an earlier agreement.
    VW models equipped with the LucasVarity calipers include the new Passat,
European versions of the Golf, a portion of Skoda Octavia and SEAT Toledo
models.
    Fitment is underway for Audi's A3, A4 and A6 models and will commence on
the A8 and full range of S models next year.
    "VW's choice of LucasVarity is gratifying because VW is our largest
European customer, as well as the volume leader in the European car market,"
said Divisional Managing Director Steve Lunn.  "This new business will extend
our relationship with VW/Audi for the next several years, reinforcing our
position as the leading caliper producer in the European automotive industry."
    Headquartered in Livonia, Michigan, the Light Vehicle Braking Systems
Division of LucasVarity supplies braking components to virtually every major
automotive manufacturer in the world.
