John Ruberto Appointed Vice President Strategic Business Development for GenCorp AerojetSACRAMENTO, Calif., Nov. 7 -_ GenCorp Aerojet today announced the appointment of John V. Ruberto as Vice President of Strategic Business Development for Aerojet. Mr. Ruberto now serves as Principal Deputy in the Office of the Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Nuclear and Chemical and Biological Defense Programs. "The appointment of John Ruberto to direct Aerojet's strategic planning will help provide the leadership necessary to ensure the future success of the company," said Aerojet President Bob Wolfe. In his present position, Mr. Ruberto is responsible for activities related to nuclear, chemical, and biological warfare, survivability of military systems, defensive measures to counter nuclear, chemical, and biological threats, and acquisition of systems and materials to counter weapons of mass destruction. Additional responsibilities include all matters related to the destruction of U.S. chemical weapons and technical assistance to other nations in chemical weapons destruction. He is also responsible to help ensure appropriate acquisition of systems and material to support the U.S. counter proliferation strategy, and, on behalf of the ATSD (NCB), has organizational control over the Defense Special Weapons Agency, the On-Site Inspection Agency, and the Cooperative Threat Reduction Program. Mr. Ruberto has served in government positions since 1994 when Secretary of Defense William Perry appointed him Director of Defense Diversification. He subsequently served as Deputy to the Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Defense Conversion and was Acquisition and Technology representative to the Defense Conversion Committee of the Gore-Chernomyrdin Commission with Russia. He served in the same capacity on similar commissions with Ukraine, Kazakstan, and Belarus. For his efforts in this capacity, he was awarded the Exceptionally Outstanding Public Service Medal by Secretary of Defense William Cohen. Prior to his government appointment, Mr. Ruberto was Program Manager for Russian Programs for Pratt and Whitney, responsible for development of the U.S. market for the liquid rocket engines and technologies of NPO Energomash. He concurrently held the title of Director, Advanced Programs Development, responsible for broadening Pratt and Whitney's participation in U.S. and international space programs. Mr. Ruberto joined United Technologies in 1969 and has held positions in Pratt and Whitney's Commercial Products Division, United Technologies Chemical Systems Division, and Pratt and Whitney Government Engines and Space Propulsion division. Those positions include Chief of Design Technology, Chief Engineer and Director of Program Development for the Chemical Systems Division, Program Manager for the U.S. Army Missile Command's Solid Propellant Ramjet Kinetic Energy development and flight test program, and Director of Business Development and Planning for Pratt and Whitney Government Engines and Space Propulsion.
