Detroit Diesel Introduces Series 2000 Commercial Marine EngineNEW ORLEANS, Nov. 5 -- Detroit Diesel Corporation (DDC) introduced the DDC/MTU Series 200O(TM) marine engine family during the 1997 International Workboat Show. The Series 2000 engine is available in 8, 12 and 16V configurations with commercial ratings between 536 and 1800 horsepower. This engine family is a result of a joint development program between Detroit Diesel and MTU Motoren- und Turbinen-Union Friedrichshafen GmbH. The Series 2000 features maintenance-free gear drive for vital engine components and auxiliary equipment. Application- and customer-specific maintenance intervals, coupled with a favorable power-to-weight ratio, ensure optimum benefits for customers. Craig Henriksen, Vice President and General Manager of the Series 2000 product line, said, "The Series 2000 engine is the first diesel of its size and power range to benefit from proven sequential turbocharging technology which provides superior acceleration and enables the engine to deliver high power at low fuel consumption across the entire speed range." Additionally, the Series 2000 engine features an electronic engine control system with Diesel Technology / Bosch electronic unit pump injection system for optimized combustion to achieve both a high degree of application flexibility and superior fuel economy at low emission levels.
