Donnelly Optics Corporation Officially Opens Their New Facility

TUCSON, Ariz., Nov. 5 -- Donnelly Optics Corporation today
christened their state-of-the-art $2.8 million facility for the development
and manufacture of precision advanced optical systems for digital imaging,
automotive lighting optoelectronics and other applications.
"We are proud to be conducting business in Tucson, Arizona, known
throughout, the world as "Optics Valley" for the depth of optics talent
gathered here," said Daniel S. Joseph, president of Donnelly 0ptics
Corporation. "And we're especially pleased to inaugurate our world class
facility. It's a facility that allows us to design, develop, manufacture and
analyze precision optical systems for such diverse applications as digital
imaging, automotive lighting, medical analysis products, fiber optic couplings
and many other growth areas. Our facility and our employees have already made
Donnelly Optics the envy of the industry and we've barely scratched the
surface of our technical capability."
The 47,000 square foot facility includes an injection molding room
designed to accommodate 20 precision molding machines; a polymer
characterization laboratory; cutting-edge precision tooling and fabrication
facilities; world-class metrology laboratory and environmentally-controlled
assembly and production areas.
Products flowing from the production facility include the auto industry's
first-ever plastic projector type lens, to be used in the front park/turn lens
for a 1998 domestic luxury vehicle; fiber optic couplings and specialty lenses
for image projection systems.
Donnelly Optics has also designed and produced the early build optical
subsystems for Intel Corporation's recently announced Intel 971 PC Camera Kit.
The revolutionary Kit will be used to capture, enhance, store and share still
and video images and connects easily to high performance PC's, such as those
powered by Intel's Pentium Processor with MMX media enhancement technology and
Pentium II processor.
"The design capabilities brought to bear by the Donnelly Optics
Corporation during the course of this project contributes significantly to
making the optics portion of the PortablePC Camera Design Guideline possible,"
said Peter Green, General Manager of Intel's Digital Peripherals Division
(DPD).
"Our work for the past year on Intel's 971 PC Camera Kit and the park/turn
lens that we developed are merely two examples of the kinds of unique
capabilities we can bring to bear in the marketplace," Joseph said. "We look
forward to unveiling the future successes and technical breakthroughs -- in a
broad range of industries -- that we develop with our talented employees."
Donnelly 0ptics Corp. designs and manufactures high quality, precision
injection molded, difractive, refractive and hybrid optical lens systems. The
products designed and produced by Donnelly Optics have a wide variety of uses
in such industries as computers, telecommunications, aerospace medical
instrumentation and automotive.
Donnelly Optics is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Donnelly Corporation
.
