MEMA Presents Triangle Award to MascoTech's L. Gene Stohler

3 November 1997

MEMA Presents Triangle Award

LAS VEGAS, Nov. 3 -- L. Gene Stohler, vice president of
marketing and planning, MascoTech , received the Motor & Equipment
Manufacturers Association's most prestigious award at the 1997
ASIA/MEMA/APAA Industry Reception in Las Vegas this evening.
The MEMA Triangle Award is presented periodically to that person, persons,
or organization whom the membership of MEMA chooses to honor for unselfish
contribution to the automotive industry.
    This award's wording reads:

    Presented to

    L. Gene Stohler
    MascoTech

With grateful appreciation for, and in recognition of his tireless and
unselfish contribution of his time, effort, skills and determination to
successfully further the interests of the United States automotive parts
industry in the competitive international arena.

"Our 1997 Triangle Award honoree has made major contributions in
championing the interests of U.S. automotive products manufacturers in the
increasingly important international arena," said MEMA chairman William Grote
III, who presented the award. "He has been a long-time leader of MEMA's
liaison committee with the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA)
and has been instrumental in the effort to improve the relations between U.S.
suppliers and the Japanese vehicle builders which has resulted in a
substantial increase in worldwide purchases of components from U.S.
manufacturers by Japanese OEMS. He has served both as a committee member and,
for several years, as its chairman."
Prior to joining MascoTech in 1989, Stohler was vice president, worldwide
sales and marketing, ITT Automotive. He also served in a variety of
management, marketing, and aftermarket positions at Rockwell International.
He has spent 36 years working in the automotive, heavy truck, and aftermarket
industries in the Detroit area. Stohler received a bachelor's degree in
business and economics from Butler University, and master's degree from
Harvard Business School.
The Triangle Award is a sculptured, solid crystal Steuben piece with many
sides cut in triangles. The form was chosen for MEMA's award because it
signifies the many triangles which together make up the multi-faceted
automotive industry.
The award furthers the belief that many of the most important
contributions to the industry are made by those who work quietly and
effectively behind the scenes, out of the glare of public accolade, to advance
the interests of the entire industry.
Founded in 1904, MEMA exclusively represents and serves more than 700 U.S.
manufacturers of motor vehicle components, tools and equipment, automotive
chemicals, and related products used in the production, repair, and
maintenance of all classes of motor vehicles. MEMA is headquartered in
Research Triangle Park, N.C., and has offices in Washington, D.C.; Yokohama,
Japan; Brussels, Belgium; Mexico City, and Sao Paulo, Brazil.
