All-New Accord Sales Are Through The Roof! American Honda Posts New October Records
TORRANCE, Calif., Nov. 3 -- Bolstered by the success of the
all-new, 1998 model in its first month on the market, sales of the Honda
Accord skyrocketed to 42,889, up 18.9 percent from last year. This figure
shatters its old October record set in 1991 by more than 5,000 units,
according to sales figures released today by American Honda Motor Co., Inc.
The Accord's success contributed to a great month overall for Honda
Division. Sales of 76,944 were up 18.4 percent from last year and set a new
October record. Total car and total truck sales for the division also posted
new October records. Year-to-date Honda sales of 696,776 are up 13.4 percent
from the previous year.
"Consumers have been quick to recognize what a great car the new Accord
really is," said Dick Colliver, Honda Division executive vice president.
"Sales the first month out of the gate are fantastic, and we're looking
forward to a tremendous '98."
Record October American Honda sales of 83,293 were up 11.2 percent from
last year and also represent new October highs for both car and truck sales.
Total year-to-date sales of 791,203 are up 12.3 percent.
Hampered by low inventories -- a result of a very successful summer
selling season -- Acura Division sales of 6,349 were down 36.1 percent.
However, year-to-date Acura sales of 94,427 still show an increase of 5
percent from last year.
