Detroit Diesel Introduces Series 73 Marine Pleasurecraft Engine

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla., Oct. 30 -- During the 1997
Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show, Detroit Diesel Corporation (DDC)
introduced the Series 73 EDC marine pleasurecraft engine built by
Volvo Penta. The new Series 73 engine offers a compact in-line six cylinder
configuration and delivers a full 430 horsepower.
The Series 73 engine is a state-of-the-art high power unit. The engine
comes complete with all the equipment available to fully utilize the benefits
of Electronic Diesel Control. "In addition to being the only electronically
controlled engine built exclusively for the marine environment, the Series 73
engine is more compact than the competition," adds Rob Miltz, Pleasurecraft
Sales Manager at Detroit Diesel. "This engine requires less installation
space and therefore offers builders new design possibilities, facilitates twin
installations and permits excellent serviceability."
The dedicated marine Electronic Diesel Control system is an intelligent
propulsion system that allows the engine to maintain full power regardless of
fuel temperature. Automatic twin engine synchronization gives higher on-board
comfort with low engine noise and vibrations.
The Series 73 engine is also available in a water jet configuration with
higher power output of 450 horsepower to maximize the advantages of water jet
drive. The engine is fully adapted to the operating pattern of a water jet
craft which means high efficiency at high speeds, with less fuel consumption
and extended cruising range.
Detroit Diesel Corporation provides marine propulsion power from ten to
10,000 horsepower for yachts, patrol boats, ferry boats, tug boats, supply
vessels and sport fishing boats. Volvo Penta marine diesel engines are a part
