Delphi Automotive Forms Joint Venture with Tianjin Municipal Shock Absorber CompanyTIANJIN, China, Oct. 20 -- Delphi Automotive Systems today signed a joint venture agreement with Tianjin Municipal Shock Absorber Company (TMSA), an affiliate of the Tianjin Automotive Industrial Corporation (TAIC), according to Delphi Automotive Systems President and General Motors Executive Vice President J.T. Battenberg, III. The joint venture, which will be known as the Tianjin Delphi Suspension Systems Company (TDSSC), will be located in Tianjin, China. The facility produces shock absorbers and struts for use in small cars based on Daihatsu vehicle technology, and large bore shocks for use in trucks and commercial vehicles. TDSSC will also supply shocks and struts for the China aftermarket. "This project is strategic for Delphi as we work toward establishing manufacturing operations for all of our core products in China," said Battenberg. "This will provide us with the opportunity to provide components for both current and future Chinese vehicle manufacturers." Delphi Automotive Systems currently has ten joint ventures, one wholly- owned facility, and seven license agreements in China. Delphi's China projects cover a wide range of automotive components and systems products, including power and signal distribution systems, steering systems, engine management systems, brake components, shock absorbers, alternators and maintenance-free batteries.
