Hayes Wheels Extends Exchange Offer for 9-1/8% Senior Subordinated Notes

    ROMULUS, Mich., Oct. 20 -- Hayes Wheels International, Inc.
announced today that it is extending its offer to exchange all
of its outstanding 9-1/8 percent Senior Subordinated Notes due 2007 for 9-1/8
percent Series B Senior Subordinated Notes due 2007, which have been
registered under the Securities Act, until 5 p.m. New York City time on
October 24, 1997.  The exchange offer was previously scheduled to expire at
5 p.m. New York City time on October 17, 1997.
    According to The Bank of New York, the exchange agent in connection with
the exchange offer, $399 million principal amount of the $400 million
aggregate principal amount of notes outstanding had been tendered in response
to the offer as of 5 p.m. New York City time on October 17, 1997.
