UTC Appoints Haberland Acting Chief Financial Officer

    HARTFORD, Conn., Oct. 20 -- United Technologies Corp.
today announced the appointment of Jay Haberland as its acting
chief financial officer.
    Haberland succeeds Charles H. Noski, who is leaving UTC to return to
Hughes Electronics Corp. as that company's president and chief operating
officer.  Haberland will assume the CFO duties immediately while the company
conducts an outside search for a successor.  Noski joined UTC from Hughes
Electronics in September.
    Haberland joined UTC in 1994, and was named a vice president of the
corporation and its controller in 1996.
    United Technologies Corp. provides a broad range of high technology
products and support services to the building systems, automotive, and
aerospace industries.
