Hyundai Donates $15,000 To Support Upcoming Korean Film Festival At University California, IrvineSpecial Sneak Preview and U.S. Premier of Film by Highly Regarded Korean Director Nov. 12 at UCI FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Oct. 17 -- At a ceremony at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) Hyundai Motor America today contributed $15,000 to support an upcoming three-month-long Korean film festival at UCI starting in January 1998, with a special film "sneak preview" event happening Nov. 12. The Korean Film Festival, also sponsored by The Korean Cultural Center in Los Angeles, begins in January 1998 and lasts through April. Some 20 Korean films will be screened in a new, 389-seat theater on the UCI campus. Hyundai Motor America President Mark Juhn said, "Hyundai is pleased to be a sponsor of UCI's three-month-long Korean Film Festival. The variety of events associated with the Festival will provide much enjoyment for both people familiar and unfamiliar with the heritage of Korean cinema." Activities as part of UCI's Korean Film Festival and Symposium will include the presentation of scholarly papers, panel discussions and the screening and discussion of films. On Nov. 12 at UCI's 100 Humanities Instructional Building at 8:00 p.m. there will be an introduction to the film festival and the U.S. premier of the film "The Green Fish/Ch'orok Mulkoki." The film's director, Yi Chang-dong, will be on hand to discuss his work with the audience.
