Fiat and Autoliv in Collaboration

STOCKHOLM, Oct. 16 -- Fiat has granted Autoliv Inc.
, a worldwide leader in automotive safety, a
contract to supply seat belts for its Bravo model cars. Shipments will start
within a year.

has not been an Autoliv customer, although Autoliv has interacted with Fiat in
other parts of the world for many years.
Under the agreement, Autoliv and Fiat will also start a technical
cooperation for new car platforms. Autoliv has also established a subsidiary
in Italy, Autoliv Italy S.p.A., as a result of the agreement.
Autoliv Inc. manufactures airbags for driver, passenger and side-impact
applications; inflatable knee bolsters, seat belts, pretensioners, steering
wheels, seat components, child seats, sensors and electronics for virtually
all major automotive manufacturers in the world. Autoliv Inc. has more than
50 wholly-owned subsidiaries and joint ventures with 16,000 employees in 25
vehicle-producing countries. In addition, the company has more research and

automotive safety supplier. Sales in 1996 totaled US $3.2 billion and net
income US $174 million. The company's shares are listed on the New York Stock
Exchange , its Swedish Depository Receipts on the Stockholm Stock
Exchange (SSE: ALIV) and its stock options on the Chicago Board of Options
