Chrysler Financial Reports Record Third Quarter Earnings

    SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Oct. 10 -- Thomas W. Sidlik, Chairman of
Chrysler Financial Corporation (CFC), today announced the Company had achieved
third quarter 1997 pretax earnings of $168 million, the highest quarterly
pretax earnings in the Company's history.  CFC's third quarter 1997 net
earnings were $111 million, also an all-time net earnings record.
    For the first nine months of the year, CFC's pretax earnings were $465
million, the highest ever nine-month pretax earnings posted by the Company.
Net earnings for the first nine months of 1997 were $307 million, also a nine-
month earnings record.
