Thomas Resigns as President of Nissan Motor Corporation U.S.A. Minoru Nakamura Named as New ChiefTORRANCE, Calif., Oct. 6 -- Nissan Motor Corporation, U.S.A. today announced that Robert J. Thomas, president and chief executive officer, resigned his position effective October 3. Minoru Nakamura, president of Nissan North America, Inc., will succeed Thomas and add these duties to his current responsibilities. Since assuming the role of president in April, 1993, Thomas has dramatically increased the annual volume of Nissan's U.S. sales and marketing operation, from 600,000 to more than 760,000. He oversaw the successful launch of the Altima, which has been a top seller for Nissan. Under his leadership the Infiniti Division has shown steady growth particularly with the introduction of the I30 and QX4 models. Most notably, Thomas spearheaded the popular "Enjoy the Ride" advertising campaign to position Nissan's brand among consumers. This year he was selected an Automotive News All-Star for his leadership to encourage breakthrough advertising in the automotive industry. Nakamura, a 33-year veteran of Nissan Motor Co. Ltd., has held a variety of positions with the company. Prior to assuming his duties at NNA, Nakamura held positions of director and member of the board in charge of the overseas operations support department, general manager of the Asia and Oceania operations division, chairman of Nissan Motor Co. (Australia) Pty. Ltd. and chairman of Nissan Casting Australia Pty. Ltd. Along with his role as president of NNA, he is chairman of Nissan Mexicana, S.A. de C.V., Nissan Motor Corporation U.S.A., Nissan Motor Acceptance Corporation and Nissan Motor Manufacturing Corporation U.S.A. He is a managing director of Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. Commenting on this announcement, Nakamura said, "I am excited about the future growth of Nissan. Because of my dual responsibilities, I look forward to the greater synergies which will be created between manufacturing, finance and marketing. I am confident this will strengthen our efforts in North America. "In addition, the following senior management changes will take place at NMC: Tom Eastwood, currently Vice President, Nissan and Infiniti Divisions, will become Vice President and General Manager, Nissan Division. Tom Orbe, currently Vice President, Marketing, will become Vice President and General Manager, Infiniti Division.
