Nematron to Supply Paragon97 to General Motors PowertrainANN ARBOR, Mich., Oct. 6 -- Nematron Corporation said today that its NemaSoft subsidiary will supply General Motors Powertrain Group with Paragon97(TM) HMI (Human-Machine Interface) as part of a completely integrated PC-based open architecture control solution for Microsoft's Windows NT(R) operating system. Paragon97 is a 32-bit Windows NT-based operator interface developed by Intec Controls which was merged into NemaSoft earlier this year. Paragon97 version 5.0 includes the integration of OpenControl with Paragon on one CD ROM and the release of new client object-based development components, based on Internet Technology. Paragon 4.0 and 5.0 are year 2000 ready. OpenControl, the foundation to the latest engine program for General Motors Powertrain, provides fast, real-time deterministic sequential control within the same Windows NT PC, making Paragon97 an optimum solution for mission critical, hybrid applications. OpenControl has been integrated seamlessly as a full distributed server within the field proven Paragon client server architecture. This allows Paragon client applications to interact with OpenControl applications without building any additional database, a tremendous savings in application creation and maintenance time. Paragon clients can run on Windows NT, Windows 95, and OS/2 Warp, while accessing OpenControl remotely over networks, including local area and remote modem connections. Paragon97 version 5.0 advances HMI through the use of both Microsoft ActiveX and SunSoft JavaBeans component technologies. Paragon JavaBeans components interact with servers to provide live data connections either directly via Paragon networking, or using Paragon's new Java Server (JServer) over the Internet or an Intranet or dial-up TCP/IP. Paragon JServer works in conjunction with a standard Web client server like Microsoft Internet Explorer, or can operate independently to support live connections to client stations. Several secure modes are provided including a read-only application where plant operations cannot be changed by any client application. GM Powertrain is the world's largest producer of engines, transmissions, castings, and components. With its headquarters in Pontiac, Michigan, the group employs 57,000 people at 26 manufacturing plants and eight engineering centers.
