DENSO to Break Ground for Canadian Manufacturing Facility

GUELPH, Ontario, Oct. 6 -- DENSO Sales Canada, Inc. of
Mississauga, Ont., will hold a groundbreaking ceremony Oct. 8 in Guelph, Ont.,
for its first Canadian manufacturing facility.
William Saunderson, Ontario Minister of Economic Development, Trade and
Tourism, and Joe Young, Mayor of the City of Guelph, will join DENSO officials
for the event.
The 10,400-square-meter facility will employ 150 people to make car air
conditioners for Canadian carmakers. At full production, the company expects
to produce 35,000 air conditioners per month. DENSO's capital investment
totals $33 million (Canadian).
On the DENSO investment, Saunderson says, "Investments like these clearly
indicate that the business environment we are creating is working. Not only
is DENSO making a significant contribution to the Guelph area, but it also
sends a strong signal to other international investors that Ontario is a great
place to do business."
Young welcomes DENSO and says, "Here in Guelph, the manufacturing
community is broadly diversified and this has provided the City with a major
degree of stability and opportunity. DENSO will feel very much at home with
our mix of companies and the marvelous people working here."
DENSO Sales Canada's president is Tony Takeuchi, who helped pioneer
International business for DENSO Corporation, the parent company headquartered
in Kariya, Aichi, Japan.
Takeuchi says, "We're extremely pleased to have the opportunity to build
our first Canadian manufacturing facility in Guelph. We fully expect that
DENSO Sales Canada and its associates will become a vital and integral part of
the community and of Canada itself."
The Guelph facility will be part of DENSO Sales Canada, which historically
was DENSO's second North American location. Production is scheduled to start
in 1999. Early next year, DENSO Sales Canada will change its name to DENSO
Manufacturing Canada, Inc. to reflect the change in operations.
DENSO, a leading global supplier of advanced technology, systems and
components, has facilities in 23 countries, including Japan. DENSO employs
nearly 8,000 people at 15 sites in North America.
