Venezuela Leads Chrysler International Markets in September

    AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Oct. 3 -- Chrysler Corporation's
September sales in Venezuela tripled from a year ago to lead
Chrysler International's markets and anchor a 115 percent increase in Latin
America.
    "The growth of Chrysler de Venezuela has been tremendous -- sales are up
246 percent for the year to date and its share of the Venezuelan market is
above 12 percent," said Francois J. Castaing, Executive Vice President --
International, and General Manager - Powertrain Operations.
    "We're particularly pleased with Dodge Ram Pickup, which is new to that
market this year and already has captured a 10 percent share."
    Venezuela sales for Chrysler were 2,086 vehicles in September, up
198 percent from the 701 recorded a year earlier.  For the first nine months
of 1997, sales were 13,158 vehicles vs. 3,807 in 1996.
    Sales in Latin America were 4,527 vehicles in September, an increase of
115 percent from a year ago.  Sales in Brazil grew 247 percent.
    Overall, Chrysler's September sales outside North America were 18,760
vehicles, a decline of 2 percent from September 1996.  For the year to date
through September, sales totaled 177,310, up 9 percent from the first nine
months of 1996, when sales were 162,683.
    The United Kingdom led European markets with September sales of 1,453
vehicles, up 33 percent from a year ago.  Overall European sales were 7,249,
compared with 8,783 in September 1996.
    Chrysler International's Middle East/Africa region recorded 1,563 sales in
September, down from 1,825 a year ago.  Sales in the Asia/Pacific region were
5,421, compared with 6,368 in September 1996.
