American Honda Month-End Sales Up 9.1 Percent; Finishes 1997 Model Year With All-Time Record
TORRANCE, Calif., Oct. 1 -- American Honda total September
sales of 76,276 were up 9.1 percent, marking the best September in American
Honda's history. Year-to-date combined total sales of 707,910 for Honda and
Acura Division are up 12.4 percent from last year's levels.
Honda Division also posted its best September ever with sales of 67,001,
an increase of 9.9 percent from the previous year. Total truck sales, boosted
by the all new CR-V sport utility vehicle, also set a new September record
with sales of 8,155, up 94.6 percent. The division's year-to-date sales of
619,832 are up 12.8 percent.
Despite limited availability of several models, Acura sales totaled 9,275,
up 4 percent during September. Posting new records for the month of September
were the CL luxury sports coupe and RL luxury performance sedan. Acura
Division year-to-date sales of 88,078 were also up 10.1 percent over the same
period last year.
September also marked the close of the best model year in American Honda's
history with sales of 919,413, up 10.5 percent over last year. Honda
Division's total of 803,707, up 10.5 percent, is also a record, while Acura
Division model year sales of 115,706, were up 11 percent. Total Honda
Division truck sales also posted a model year record of 96,845 units, up 66.7
percent.
