Delphi Names International DirectorFLINT, Mich., Oct. 1 -- Jose Maria Alapont, an executive with broad experience in the worldwide automotive components industry, has been appointed executive director, International Operations, for Delphi Energy & Engine Management Systems. Alapont will report to Donald L. Runkle, GM vice president and general manager of Delphi Energy & Engine Management Systems. Alapont will be responsible for the division's international operations outside North America and will be based at the Delphi Technical Center in Bascharage, Luxembourg. "Mr. Alapont brings insights gained from a wide spectrum of responsibilities in diverse aspects of our business, involving operations and customers in many parts of the world," Runkle said. "We expect him to make a natural fit with our expanding global enterprise." Alapont has been group vice president-Worldwide Lighting Systems, for Valeo, the Paris-based automotive components manufacturer, with responsibility for Human Resources, Research and Development, Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, Finance, Marketing and Sales, and Legal Affairs. Valeo's lighting group has 1O divisions, with 19 manufacturing plants in Europe, North and South America, and Asia and 11 technical centers. Previously, Alapont was group vice president for Valeo's Worldwide Clutch Operations, operations director for Valeo Worldwide Heavy Duty Engine Cooling, and managing director of Valeo Engine Cooling-Spain. Before joining Valeo in 1990, Alapont was powertrain manager for Ford of Europe supplier engineering and product quality engineering and held a series of engineering and operations managerial posts for Ford of Spain. Alapont, an industrial engineer with a doctorate in philology, is fluent in Spanish, English and French. Delphi Energy & Engine Management Systems is a division of Delphi Automotive Systems, with lead responsibility for the generation, conversion and storage of electrical energy, the flow of air and fuel into an engine, the combustion process, and cleaning of exhaust emissions.
