Ryder Completes Sale Of Automotive Carrier Business

    MIAMI, Sept. 30 -- Ryder System, Inc. today
completed the previously announced sale of Ryder Automotive Carrier Services
and RC Management Corp. to Allied Holdings, Inc. .
    As announced earlier, the businesses were sold at a gain for approximately
$114.5 million in cash and assumption of the liabilities of the businesses.

    NOTE:  Ryder provides high-quality logistics and transportation solutions
throughout the United States and in Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany,
Poland, The Netherlands, Mexico, Brazil and Argentina.  Revenue in the
12 months ended June 30, 1997 was $5.5 billion.  Assets at June 30, 1997 were
$5.6 billion.
    Ryder's stock is a component of the Dow Jones Transportation Average and
the Standard & Poor's 500 Index.
