AID AUTO STORES, INC. Announces Grand Opening Date for its Second Staten Island, New York Superstore

          Store to Have Grand Opening Ceremony on October 18, 1997;
          Company Spokesman Walt `Clyde' Frazier to Make Appearance

    WESTBURY, N.Y., Sept. 30 -- AID AUTO STORES, INC.
(Nasdaq: AIDA, AIDAW) today announced the grand opening date of its second
Staten Island, NY, Aid Auto Superstore to be held on Saturday, October 18,
1997.
    This new superstore is located in the Tysen's Park Shopping Center at
2750A Hylan Boulevard in Staten Island, New York.  The Company noted that its
official spokesman, former New York Knick and current National Basketball
Association Hall of Famer Walt "Clyde" Frazier, will be appearing at the grand
opening and will be available to sign autographs.
    The new superstore is approximately 8,700 square feet and located in one
of Staten Island's largest shopping centers.  This center currently features
such well-known retail stores as Office Max, Pergament Home Centers,
Waldbaums, Burger King and Pizza Hut as well as several well known specialty
retail stores.
    Commenting on the announcement, Philip L. Stephen, chairman and chief
executive officer of AID AUTO STORES, INC., stated, "We are extremely pleased
to announce the grand opening date of our newest Superstore.  The Superstore
will benefit from the high volume of traffic generated by such names as Office
Max, Pergament and Waldbaums, more than adequate parking facilities, and
traffic from the adjacent shopping mall on Hylan Boulevard which includes such
well known retailers as K-Mart, Pathmark, Toys R Us, Modells and others.
    Mr. Stephen continued, "With the addition of this new Staten Island
Superstore, the Company now owns and operates 22 Aid Auto Stores, 20 of which
operate as Superstores.  The Company will continue to seek additional
opportunities in the New York metropolitan region and anticipates signing
additional leases for Superstores in the near future.
    AID AUTO STORES, INC. is a major New York metropolitan area retailer,
wholesaler and franchiser of automotive parts and accessories, targeting both
the do-it-yourself and commercial markets.  As a result of its Superstore
growth program, the Company has converted from being a predominantly
franchise/wholesale operation to an enterprise where Company-owned retail
