American Honda Motor Co., Inc., Statement Regarding Federal District Court Ruling on Request for Preliminary Injunction and Decision not to Hear Lawsuit

TORRANCE, Calif., Sept. 29 -- The following is being released
by Dick Colliver, executive vice president of American Honda:

In accordance with today's action by the Federal District Court in Los
Angeles, dismissing American Honda's lawsuit against Republic Industries, we
will pursue our claim in states where Republic attempts to acquire a Honda or
Acura dealership. We will also appeal the District Court's decision as we
continue to pursue all available legal avenues to protect our dealers and
customers from the disruption caused by Republic's national buying binge.
While we are disappointed with the Federal District Court's decision, we
remain confident that the courts will ultimately sustain our position that
Republic's buying binge is bad for American Honda's dealers and customers, and
violates American Honda's rights.
Honda maintains the highest standards for customer service and dealer
operations. These consistently high standards are central to the ongoing
success of the Honda and Acura brands and the satisfaction of our customers,
who continually rank American Honda #1 in J.D. Power customer loyalty surveys.
We will not compromise Honda's brand reputation, nor abandon our dealers'
and customers' rights.
