Mercedes-Benz Announces Executive Appointments: Korman to Head Washington Region; Helling in Charge of Tourist DeliveryMONTVALE, N.J., Sept. 22 -- Mercedes-Benz of North America, Inc. (MBNA) today announced the appointment of Mark Korman to general manager in charge of the MBNA's Washington (D.C.) Region. Korman replaces Sten Helling who, for personal reasons, will be returning to Montvale headquarters where he will head the company's industry-leading tourist delivery operation. Both positions are effective October 1, 1997. Korman, who has been with MBNA since 1978, has had broad experience in dealer and operational issues. He has held a variety of management positions at corporate headquarters and in the field during his 20 years with MBNA. Since 1995, he has been general manager in charge of franchise development and training in Montvale. In his new position, Korman has responsibility for all activities of the Washington Region which covers Virginia to Maine (including Southern New Jersey, Western Pennsylvania and parts of Connecticut) exclusive of the New York metro area (New York Region). The Washington Region is headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland. The company has five additional region locations: Chicago (Rosemont, IL), Jacksonville (Jacksonville, FL), Los Angeles (Costa Mesa, CA), New York (Parsippany, N.J), and San Francisco (Burlingame, CA). A graduate of Boston University with a bachelor of science degree in finance and operations, Korman also holds an MBA in Finance from Fordham University. Sten Helling joined MBNA in 1992 as general manager of franchise development. In 1995, he left headquarters to assume responsibility for the Washington Region. Helling's background includes over 30 years experience in the automotive industry beginning with a variety of sales and marketing positions with Volvo Corporation from 1963 to 1980. He then held a number of senior management positions at Saab Cars USA, Inc. from 1980 to 1991. As manager of tourist delivery, Helling will be responsible for the planned expansion of MBNA's European Delivery Program. He will also be responsible for designing and developing a program for factory delivery of the company's newly introduced M-Class model line at the plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
