Speedway Motorsports Names Marylaurel E. Wilks Vice President, Communications And General Counsel

    CONCORD, N.C., Sept. 19 -- Marylaurel E. Wilks has been
promoted to Vice President, Communications and General Counsel of Speedway
Motorsports, Inc. .  The company's chief operating officer and
president, H.A. Wheeler, made the announcement today.
    A native of Jackson, Mich., Wilks began her motorsports career as
Assistant to the Public Relations Director of Michigan Speedway during the
summers of 1984-1990.  After graduating  cum laude from Cedar Crest College in
Allentown, Pa., with a double major in history and political science,  Wilks
attended Wake Forest University School of Law, graduating in 1993.
    Wilks joined Charlotte Motor Speedway in 1993 as corporate counsel after
admission to the North Carolina State Bar.  Upon the successful completion
of Speedway Motorsports initial public offering in February 1995, she took on
the additional responsibilities of Director of Investor Relations.
    Active in various organizations, Wilks is a member of the North Carolina
State Bar, North Carolina Bar Association, Mecklenburg and Cabarrus County
Bar Associations, National Investor Relations Institute, American Society of
Corporate Secretaries, Phi Alpha Theta (an honorary society which recognizes
persons with conspicuous attainments and scholarship in the field of history),
Dilworth United Methodist Church, and is a past board member of the North
Carolina Bar Association Corporate Counsel Section.
    Wilks resides in Charlotte with her husband Whit and enjoys gourmet
cooking, reading, exercising and gardening.
