In addition, the show also will contribute an estimated $11 million to Detroit's economy during its three-day run, through hotel, restaurant, entertainment, convention services and other spending. Taking place Sept. 9-11, the Midwest's largest metalworking and manufacturing exposition of 1997 will draw more than 15,000 manufacturing professionals from throughout the Midwest to see over 450 companies demonstrate the latest manufacturing technologies and processes. The Detroit '97 APEX features key Midwest distributors and other exhibitors demonstrating five million pounds of machine tools and manufacturing equipment from leading U.S., European and Asian builders. Among some 1,000 product lines displayed in 175,000 square feet of exhibit space are Bridgeport, Cincinnati Milacron, Fadal, Haas, Hardinge, Makino, Mazak, Sodick, and more. Running Sept. 8-11, the 2nd International Machining and Grinding Conference takes place at the Hyatt Regency, Dearborn, Mich. Sponsored by the Machining Technology Association of SME (MTA/SME), this event addresses the technology and management needs of machining and production grinding operations worldwide. Program content deals with practical applications and research aimed at shop-floor implementation. Detroit '97 is part of the Advanced Productivity Exposition (APEX) series produced by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME). APEX events bring together builders, distributors and users of machine tools and metalworking equipment in key regional markets. Detroit '97 APEX is sponsored by SME, the American Machine Tool Distributors' Association (AMTDA), and AMT - The Association For Manufacturing Technology. SOURCE Society of Manufacturing Engineers
