Hertz Forms Industrial Group Within Equipment Rental Unit

PARK RIDGE, N.J., Sept. 8 -- The Hertz Corporation
, the world's largest car rental company and the largest equipment
rental business in the U.S., announced formation of a new industrial tool and
equipment group within Hertz Equipment Rental Corporation (HERC), that will
focus on the growing industrial market.
Gerald A. Plescia, Hertz Executive Vice President and President of HERC,
said, "The formation of the Hertz Industrial Resource Group reflects the more
aggressive approach being taken by HERC to the expanding reliance on
outsourcing within the industrial market. We believe there is a significant
opportunity for profitable growth here that is less cyclical than the
construction equipment rental market and we intend to capitalize on it. Given
the strength of our existing national account business, we believe we're in a
position to do so."
The Hertz Industrial Resource Group will rent to industrial accounts tools
and equipment and make available for sale "consumables" such as hard hats,
work gloves and safety goggles.
"The Hertz Industrial Resource Group will not only rent equipment, but
manage it for the industrial account," commented Plescia.
By means of the SMART (Site Management Asset Rental Tracking) Network
developed by Hertz, accounts will be able to track all rentals, utilization
and dollars spent; select and order additional equipment from Hertz; and
manage their inventory.
In charge of the new group is Larry D. Brewer, Division Vice President,
who has joined Hertz after more than 12 years in the industrial equipment
rental business.
According to Brewer, the Hertz Industrial Resource Group will serve
industrial accounts through regional distribution centers and mobile tool
rooms.
"A distribution center has already been opened in LaPorte, Texas and we
plan to open others throughout the U.S. to coincide with the growth in
business," said Brewer. "In addition, we will use mobile tool rooms for
on-site support of our accounts on either a temporary or a continuing basis.
This will better enable us to respond to account needs that may be remote from
a regional distribution center and better help us to penetrate the market."
Hertz Equipment Rental Corporation operates from 130 locations in the U.S.
and five in Europe.
