New President of Titan Tire Corporation AnnouncedQUINCY, Ill., Sept. 4 -- Consistent with corporate plans to develop its wheel and tire operations into distinct operational units, Titan International, Inc. is pleased to announce the appointment of Gary Carlson as president of its subsidiary, Titan Tire Corporation. Carlson has a strong background in rubber production and its application to the tire aftermarket industry, acquired through increasingly responsible roles with Bandag Inc. Carlson has consistently demonstrated strength in corporate strategic planning of North American and international expansion programs, with an eye to profitable growth and creation of sound distribution facilities to underpin corporate expansion goals. In his new position with Titan Tire Corporation, Carlson will draw on these skills to bring together the existing talents in manufacturing, engineering, research and development, marketing and distribution to form a dedicated team of professionals committed to achieving corporate growth objectives in the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and aftermarket tire markets. Reporting to Carlson will be plants in Des Moines, Iowa; Clinton, Tennessee; and a new plant in Brownsville, Texas. The recently opened design center in Akron, Ohio, will also report to Carlson. It is anticipated that early in Carlson's tenure, attention will be focused on integrating and rationalizing production flow in order to satisfy customer needs and also develop an efficient distribution system to add structure and depth to Titan's growth objectives. Also high on Carlson's agenda will be the drafting and implementation of key strategic initiatives in the international field. "We are very pleased that Gary is joining the Titan team," stated Maurice Taylor Jr., president and CEO of Titan International. "I had been the acting Titan Tire president before we named Gary, and I feel very confident in his abilities. This will also allow me to return my focus to examining potential acquisitions for Titan." Carlson is a 1973 graduate of the University of Iowa with a degree in Business Administration. Carlson, his wife Sheryl, and their children will be relocating to Des Moines, headquarters of Titan Tire Corporation.
