New President of Titan Tire Corporation Announced

QUINCY, Ill., Sept. 4 -- Consistent with corporate plans to
develop its wheel and tire operations into distinct operational units, Titan
International, Inc. is pleased to announce the appointment of Gary
Carlson as president of its subsidiary, Titan Tire Corporation.
Carlson has a strong background in rubber production and its application
to the tire aftermarket industry, acquired through increasingly responsible
roles with Bandag Inc. Carlson has consistently demonstrated strength in
corporate strategic planning of North American and international expansion
programs, with an eye to profitable growth and creation of sound distribution
facilities to underpin corporate expansion goals.
In his new position with Titan Tire Corporation, Carlson will draw on
these skills to bring together the existing talents in manufacturing,
engineering, research and development, marketing and distribution to form a
dedicated team of professionals committed to achieving corporate growth
objectives in the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and aftermarket tire
markets. Reporting to Carlson will be plants in Des Moines, Iowa; Clinton,
Tennessee; and a new plant in Brownsville, Texas. The recently opened design
center in Akron, Ohio, will also report to Carlson.
It is anticipated that early in Carlson's tenure, attention will be
focused on integrating and rationalizing production flow in order to satisfy
customer needs and also develop an efficient distribution system to add
structure and depth to Titan's growth objectives. Also high on Carlson's
agenda will be the drafting and implementation of key strategic initiatives in
the international field.
"We are very pleased that Gary is joining the Titan team," stated Maurice
Taylor Jr., president and CEO of Titan International. "I had been the acting
Titan Tire president before we named Gary, and I feel very confident in his
abilities. This will also allow me to return my focus to examining potential
acquisitions for Titan."
Carlson is a 1973 graduate of the University of Iowa with a degree in
Business Administration. Carlson, his wife Sheryl, and their children will be
relocating to Des Moines, headquarters of Titan Tire Corporation.
Titan International, Inc. is a global manufacturer of mounted tire and
wheel systems for off-highway equipment used in agriculture, construction,
mining, military, recreation and grounds care. Titan has manufacturing and
distribution facilities throughout the United States and Europe.
